We caught up with DJ and producer Nicholas Gun at the Nexus Lounge Amsterdam during last month’s Amsterdam Dance Event. The producer, songwriter, and label owner filled us in about his experience at ADE2024, gushed about the success of his label Blue Dot Music, and played a round of our Nexus Take 5 Series.
Nicholas Gunn is a versatile musician, songwriter, and producer whose work has left a lasting mark on the electronic music landscape. With a background in classical music, Gunn’s musical journey has led him to experiment in a range of genres, most recently zeroing in on Trance, Melodic House, and Chillout. His ability to seamlessly fuse classical vibes with modern electronic elements has earned him recognition for creating captivating soundscapes that evoke both emotion and energy.
As a skilled songwriter and lyricist, Gunn has worked with some of the industry’s biggest vocalists and producers to craft uplifting, emotive tracks that strike a chord with listeners. Just take a listen to his latest release, “Campfire”, an acoustically-driven trance track that brings together the natural world and dance music brilliantly. If this single is anything to go off, we’re in for a treat with Nick’s upcoming album 30.
Getting into our interview, Nick tells us that he’s excited to be back in Amsterdam: “Amsterdam is Amsterdam… When you come here, you get a one-of-a-kind experience. I can’t find it anywhere else, so I soak it up.”
And, while he might be sharing his music in Amsterdam, Nick’s primary focus while here is celebrating a banner year for his label, Blue Dot Music, which put out a staggering eighty-five projects in 2024 and opened a new trance imprint, Blue Dot Trance, featuring legends Richard Durand and Craig Connelly.
The label has plans to double their output in 2025, making major headway towards that goal since they’ve received full support from Sony Orchard and a direct license with Sirius XM. We can’t wait to keep up to date on all things Blue Dot in the coming year.
Before he heads out, Nick answers a few questions as part of our rapid-fire Q&A Series, Nexus Take 5. We’ll let you discover his responses to some pretty outlandish queries via the link to the exclusive and full-length interview below.
