Kesha Speaks After Being Dropped From Billboard Music Awards

Earlier this week Tik-Tok star, Kesha was pulled out from the performing line-up at coming Sunday’s (May 22) Billboard awards show by Kemosabe Records, Dr. Luke’s record label.

Kesha was due to take to the stage on Sunday where it was reported she would be making a “statement performance” and would be addressing her well-documented sexual assault case with Dr Luke. Kemosabe Records – Dr. Luke’s label – then did a U-turn after getting wind of what she reportedly had planned and blocked her from performing.

Responding to the cancellation of her performance, Kesha has insisted her performance was never going to be about the producer.

“I was very excited to perform a tribute to Bob Dylan by singing a cover of “It ain’t me, babe” at the Billboard awards this year,” she wrote on Instagram.

“I’m very sad and sorry to say I won’t be allowed to do this. I just wanted to make very clear that this performance was about me honoring one of my favourite songwriters of all time and has never had anything at all to do with Dr. Luke. I was never going to use a picture of him, speak of him or allude to my legal situation in any way. I simply wanted to sing a song I love to honour an artist I have always looked up to. thank u all for the continued support.”

Kesha, who released “True Colors” with Zedd in late April with permission from Kemosabe Records, recently performed a powerful rendition of Lady Gaga’s “Til it Happens to You” at the Humane Society Gala Ball on May 7.
