M&M ROPE IN ALOE BLACC AND ZEDD

M&M, the best-selling candy in America, the treat that Mars makes 400 million of – is marking its 75th birthday. And for this momentous occasion, which will be celebrated over a year, it has commissioned the collaborative talents of Aloe Blacc and multi-platinum Grammy winning EDM star, Zedd to record a new version of the song; one that is synonymous and owned by M&M, the 1970’s classic song “The Candy Man”.

“The Candy Man” song, was originally written for the film Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory in 1971, but once Sammy Davis Jr, put his spin on it in 1972, the track went on to become the only number one hit of his long career. Since then, while millions have enjoyed the music, the hit has now faded a bit from memory. Forbes reports, in an attempt to bring one of its most beloved creations to a new generation, M&M’s reached out to two popular artists today to see what they could do with the track. Electronic producer and artist Zedd and pop/R&B vocalist Aloe Blacc ended up on the project, which is completely re-imagined for a new generation, complete with partially rewritten lyrics and a melody that could make this a hit.

Says Zedd, “When M&Ms approached me about recreating this classic for their 75th anniversary, everything about it was amazing for me because—well, first of all I love M&Ms—I love Aloe. And you know, getting a chance to get in the seat with Aloe just by itself was amazing…It’s a huge honor to be chosen to be able to do this.”
