The dance music legend, Paul Oakenfold, recently commented during a two-hour Q&A session that he is not an EDM act,“Look, I’m not an EDM act. I don’t want to be a pop star.”
The Q&A was celebrating his 30th anniversary of his 1987 summer in Ibiza- a trip that helped propel Britain into a house music revolution.
“I find it a bit difficult holding my hand up and going ‘I’ve been around for 30 years.’ It’s not an easy thing to admit to yourself when you’re DJing to 21-year-olds.”
“That moment where I went to Ibiza — did I ever think the start of the scene with a couple of friends would lead me to sitting here with you, seeing the world through a box of records? No. I’m very lucky, I’m very fortunate. And I’m in a great moment where I’m just enjoying it. I’m comfortable with who I am and where I am.”
To pay homage to his start, Paul Oakenfold will embark on a Worldwide tour, celebrating the various stages of his career, from downtempo, to house and trance.
The tour starts off this month in Orange County with various stops in the US, UK and Spain.
