THE 10 Qs SERIES
If you’ve not listened to JVNA’s latest single, you are in for something unique. “Play With You” (from her album of the same name) is an energetic techno anthem that’ll have you dancing in no time. Intense, dramatic, and with a mighty beat, it’s the kind of track that turns heads, and it’s just one of 11 new songs from this fantastic artist.
Based in California, JVNA is an American-Taiwanese singer-songwriter, performer, and all-around musical mastermind with a massive range of instruments in her repertoire. Known for her love of anime, and particularly for her remixes of anime game soundtracks, her latest work draws on those inspirations to build something bigger and better.
With vital elements of dark fantasy combined with powerful basslines and rap vocals, “Play With You” demonstrates the breadth of JVNA’s creative vision. As her second album to date, it’s unclear whether or not this style will define her work to come, but for now, JVNA has demonstrated that she’s more than got what it takes to step outside the box in a big way.
Having described the project as “a healing journey”, and one that “captures the essence of embracing dark feminine energy”, it’s clear that JVNA feels a close personal connection with her latest work – as all great artists do. Here at Nexus, we were eager to dig deeper into the inspirations behind that work and the process of how it came to be. Read on for the full 10Qs interview!
