Their name may be singular but “The HIM” is actually comprised of two people. Jeroen Kerstens and Steven Gerghuijs make up the DJ and production duo known as The HIM. The pair first broke out into the music scene with the 2015 track “Midnight Hearts,” a collaboration with “melodic house” mastermind Sam Feldt. “Midnight Hearts” has amassed over 17 million streams to date (and counting).
The HIM are certainly in-demand as they have been tapped by A-List celebrity musicians such as The Chainsmokers, Martin Garrix, Miley Cyrus, Tiesto and David Guetta for official remixes. However, The HIM have been focusing more on their own works; they recently wrapped up a U.S. tour alongside Galantis, and they’ve also released a series of original tracks including “Broken Love” featuring Parson James, a track that pushes boundaries and transcends genres.
Get ready to hear more from the HIM as they continue to cement their name in the dance music world. The HIM (Jeroen and Steven) joined us for a quick Take 5 interview.
Nexus: Tell us about your latest project.
The HIM: Broken Love! We wrote this a while back and we were waiting for the right time to release this song. We recorded the song in L.A. with Parson James, he is also featured on Kygo’s “Stole The Show” and we were honored to work with Parson on this record.
Nexus: If there was one island or country you could buy, which one would it be?
The HIM: We would definitely buy Austin, Texas. They have the best BBQ in the world and the weather is perfect. Can’t wait to be back or buy this place:D
Nexus: name three famous guests you would invite to dinner?
The HIM: We would love to invite Guy Fieri to make sure we get some of the nicest comfort food :D, Avicii because he passed away too early, and Ricky Gervais to crack some jokes!
Nexus: What advice would you give your 15-year-old self?
The HIM: There is no advice we can give our 15 year old selves. We think that everyone’s experiences define who they are as people. The only thing we would say, is try to find something that you love as work, and try hard as you can to be the best at it.
Nexus: If you could take one person or thing on a trip around the world, who or what would it be?
Jeroen: My girlfriend!
Steven: If I had the money- all my friends, but for now I’ll go for a pillow 😀
Nexus: What picks you up when you are down?
The HIM: Comfort food hahaha! We always try to find the best places to eat when we are traveling. It helps make the long wait worth it 😀
