DJ and Producer Maxim Lany sat down with us virtually here at Nexus Lounge to discuss his ADE experience, his profound connection to music, and his most recent works. The musical artist is also eager to answer our funny, serious, and weird questions during the Nexus Lounge interview!
Maxim Lany is a well-known personality in the Belgian electronic music industry as a DJ and producer. He established a solid reputation by spreading his sound internationally throughout the years. After releasing music on some of the scene’s most prestigious labels, his Armada Electronic Elements debut, ‘Renaissance,’ catapulted him to new heights. He now holds unique positions on Rave Rebels, Tomorrowland, and Extrema Outdoor, and his Friday night residency at Studio Brussel continues to solidify his status.
Even though many people tell him ADE 2021 is not the real idea because it’s virtual, Maxim Lany swears he had the best ADE experience thus far. Having fewer people provided him with more opportunities to work with Armada and perform at the W Hotel. “Normally, this would never happen because it will be too busy. And now we had a feeling that we seized the moment.”
When it comes to his DJ persona, Maxim is taking it to the next level. If you chance to stumble on his Instagram account, you’ll notice that most of his photos are in black and white. Nevertheless, the DJ is all set to explain why. “It was only clear that when I was showing music, we would highlight that in color and put all the other things into black and white.” He then emphasized the importance of Instagram when trying to develop a brand or image.
Maxim also discusses his debut album, “Closer, You’re Not Alone,” released in August 2021. While everyone else was at home, he continued to make music. He created this album to represent his sentiments during the lockdown and his wishes for a better world. Aside from that, we can anticipate some of his remixes, which will be released early next year.
Maxim has developed his distinctive sound over the years and takes his career very seriously. He devotes his attention to developing new music and expressing himself through his one-of-a-kind DJ sets, which earned him a household name and allowed him to pursue his passion. When asked why music is important, Maxim answered, “If I don’t have music around me, I don’t feel alive.”
Maxim also showed his geeky side by revealing that his favorite movie clip is a scene from the science fiction film Interstellar. “There is this incredible piece of music by Hans Zimmer. And I tend to think of it the same way, like without any time and just thinking of timelines.” He explained that’s how he conceptualizes his album: by attempting to strike a balance while also bringing people closer together through music.
