Voted as the KLM Top 100 DJs Legend, Tiesto was recently recognized as the best DJ of the last 20 years.
After winning the award, Tiesto told DJ Mag in a Top 100 DJs interview that his biggest achievement was that he shifted his focus and style from trance to electric house.
When asked if he thought that leaving trance was influential to his popularity in the U.S. the Dutch producer said that being “the Tiesto trance guy” would make him feel as he wasn’t “really relevant.”
“It doesn’t feel like anybody really cares,” Tiesto told DJ Mag “and I think that’s the biggest difference.”
He revealed that he enjoyed being in touch with young and new producers.
“They see me as a kind of god father” he said.
The DJ Legend knows that his transition was an influential decision for his new sound and the mainstream sound that has taken over EDM.
“I think if I wanted to be a trance DJ [new producers] would have been so disconnected with that sound that I wouldn’t be that much of an inspiration for them and vice versa.”
New producers like Martin Garrix are surely greatful for his successful transition and trance influence on the new EDM sound.
Tiesto seems to be loving the new vibes that he’s giving and receiving from EDM.
“It’s a new excitement for me” the producer told DJ Mag “it’s a different world.”
