Wave Wave Rides the Pressure: From Underground Heat to Chicago’s Dancefloor Takeover

THE Level 7 SERIES

Hamburg-born DJ and producer Wave Wave is quickly emerging as one of the most compelling names in melodic house, blending underground sensibilities with crossover appeal. In a recent interview with Nexus, he offered insight into a breakout moment in his career, one defined by a string of high-profile releases, international bookings, and a rapidly growing global audience. With over 100 million streams to his name and releases on influential labels such as Diynamic, SIZE, and Experts Only, Wave Wave is carving out a distinct sonic identity rooted in tension, groove, and emotional depth.

His latest momentum centers around his debut EP Feel The Pressure, a two-track release that showcases both his atmospheric storytelling and club-ready precision. The title track, a collaboration with FRANCO BA, leans into hypnotic indie dance textures layered over a driving tech house rhythm, while “Back It Up” shifts gears into a more direct, late-night weapon designed for peak-time dance floors. This duality, balancing introspection with raw energy, has become a defining characteristic of his sound.

Adding to the excitement, Wave Wave is set to release a new single, “Clarity,” in collaboration with HILLS via Layton Giordani’s MADMINDS label. As he shared in the Nexus interview, the track came together organically, sparked by a vocal from Mary Jensen that immediately inspired production ideas. After refining the demo with HILLS and road-testing it in clubs, the result is a polished, emotionally resonant track built for both intimate listening and high-impact live sets.

Beyond the studio, Wave Wave’s touring schedule continues to expand. He is set to perform in Chicago at Sleeping Village on April 11, bringing his signature tension-driven sound to one of the city’s most respected venues. The show marks another step in his growing presence in the U.S., as he builds toward a busy summer that includes appearances at Pacha Ibiza alongside Robin Schulz. With additional releases planned throughout April, his trajectory shows no signs of slowing.

During the interview, Wave Wave also opened up about his evolving creative process, noting a shift from melody-driven production to starting with drums and groove, a change that has helped him overcome creative blocks. He spoke about drawing inspiration from nature, the importance of not taking life too seriously, and learning to navigate the inevitable highs and lows of a music career. These reflections reveal an artist not only refining his craft but also developing a grounded perspective amid rapid success.

As Wave Wave continues to bridge underground credibility with wider appeal, his Nexus interview highlights both the technical precision and personal mindset fueling his rise. With new music, major performances, and a growing international profile, he stands firmly on the path to becoming a defining voice in the next wave of electronic music.

Q: Tell us about your latest project.

My latest project is a collaboration with the US-based DJ duo HILLS titled “Clarity.” It was signed to Layton Giordani’s label Madminds. The whole process came together really smoothly. A friend of mine and a great singer, Mary Jensen, sent me the vocal a few months ago, and I immediately had some strong production ideas for it. I sent a demo to HILLS, and they loved it and quickly helped finish the track. Layton, HILLS, and I played it out multiple times and made a few small adjustments to turn it into a perfect club track.

Q: What’s your creative process like when producing a new track? Do you start with a melody, beat, or something else?

For years, I always started with a melody or a synth, but I often got stuck. Over the past few months, I’ve switched things up and now start with the drums. Sometimes a strong groove is all you need to build a track.

Q: What’s the weirdest or most unexpected place you’ve drawn inspiration from?

Definitely nature. I love taking long walks with my dog, and I always feel inspired afterward. Even though it’s the complete opposite of a club environment, it helps me feel calm and clears my mind.

Q: If you had to swap lives with a cartoon character for a week, who would it be?

Haha, great question! I’d say BoJack Horseman. He’s living quite a life but family wise I’d probably try to keep things in better shape than he does.

Q: If you could travel with a celebrity, who would it be?

Rick Rubin, 100%. I’m a huge fan, and I think I could learn so much from him.

Q: What’s the most significant lesson life has taught you so far?

Not to take everything too seriously. A few years ago, I took every opinion very personally, but now I try to focus on doing what I love every day and maybe that’s enough.

Q: How do you handle failure?

It’s still not easy. But I’ve learned that every low is followed by a high it happens all the time. So I try to stay patient and wait for things to turn around.
