Why we all ‘Scream For More’: Kate Ryan’s Most Sensational Dance Number

Belgian singer/songwriter Kate Ryan is probably best known for her covers of popular hits like ‘Libertine’ and ‘Voyage Voyage,’ but that’s not to say she doesn’t have great material of her own. Throughout her career, Ryan has released five studio albums, each packed with dynamic, dance-worthy songs, and today we’re taking a look at the track that started it all: ‘Scream For More.’
Scream For More

Her debut single–which would also appear on her first album, Different–’ Scream For More’ was the song that introduced the world to Kate Ryan.

It’s a classic dance number, with all the hallmarks of an early 2000s EDM track. It’s got the catchy hook; it’s got the constant beat, and, most importantly, it’s got a vocalist who can pull it all together. With all that in its favor, ‘Scream For More’ hit the carts in Austria, Belgium, Denmark, and the Netherlands.
That’s not bad for a debut track, but it was only the beginning of Ryan’s long career in music. For comparison, one year later, Different hit the charts across ten European countries, more than twice what ‘Scream For More’ managed on its own.

What makes a song like ‘Scream For More’ so Nostalgic?

Of course, there’s no easy answer to how a song lives on to become a go-to nostalgia hit. Sometimes it’s a profoundly personal reason–like the place and time when you first heard it–and other times, it’s more general. For artists who become household names like Katy Perry or Lady Gaga, it’s easy to see how their music lives on decades after it was released, but what about those artists who never quite reach that level of fame?

Kate Ryan has had a successful career, there’s no doubt about that, but the fact that people still go back and listen to this debut song can’t be chalked up to her success alone.

The truth is that this track is remembered for what it was. If you watch the official music video and scroll down to the comments, you’ll see hundreds of people who, to this day, take the time to stop and mention how much this song still means to them.

It’s a summer song, a dance song, and, for many, it’s the song that introduced them to Kate Ryan.

Where did she go from here?

With that being said, you may be wondering what Kate Ryan went on to do next.

As we mentioned earlier, Ryan released five studio albums between the years 2002 and 2012. However, after releasing her fifth album, Electroshock, Ryan decided that albums were no longer suitable for the market and shifted her attention to releasing singles.

In this second phase of her career, Ryan released many of these ‘non-album’ singles such as ‘Light in the Dark, ‘Heart Flow,’ and a French cover of American Country singer Margaret Whiting’s ‘It Hurts to Say Goodbye.’

To this day, Ryan is still putting out singles, and if her over a million monthly listeners on Spotify are anything to go by, her fans are still loving them.
