Years & Years: New Single Soon

British electronica trio Years & Years are releasing a new single, “Shine,” on July 5th in anticipation of their upcoming debut album “Communion,” due out July 10th.

It’s been a good year for Years & Years, signing on to Polydor Records in 2014, winning the prestigious BBC Sound of 2015 in January, and then the massive success of their single “King” in March (it reached number one on the UK Singles Chart in a week). “Shine” has already received generally positive reviews. Though it is not available to download yet, the song was premiered on Annie Mac’s Hottest Record in the World on May 11th, according to Digital Spy.

On the song and its music video (which you can watch here), vocalist Olly Alexander says that “the song is about the overwhelming and unstable feeling of falling in love and we wanted to use light to represent that feeling. We wanted the light to be this powerful supernatural force and we took inspiration from films like ETPoltergeist and Close Encounters,” according to Complex. The video features the band encountering supernatural occurrences in a house.

“Communion,” which will feature “Shine” and all of Years & Years’ previously released singles, is available for pre-order on their website from various vendors, in both standard and deluxe editions, as well as a vinyl version.
