Ellie Goulding’s next project is about to drop. The British singer is poised to release her fifth studio album, Higher Than Heaven, and to build anticipation, she has released a new single called “Let It Die.”
Higher Than Heaven, the fifth studio album from multiplatinum British superstar Ellie Goulding, is set for release on February 3, 2023. Ellie joins some of pop music’s best, including Greg Kurstin, Koz, and Andrew Wells, which sees her put her own twist on modern pop music. It’s her first album in three years since 2020’s “Brightest Blue,” and it includes a guest appearance from Big Sean.
In a 2021 interview with “The Joe Wicks Podcast,” Ellie Goulding highlighted her grand concept for her upcoming LP and explained that writing in the album’s early stages was going smoothly. “I spent a lot of time by myself, quite introspective, and I had a backlog of things I wanted to write about,” she stated. “It was quite deep and emotional. And this album is the opposite of that. I found this dream team of writers who are all on the same page for some reason without even having to talk about it. Together we’re on this mission to have fun. We want to make music for people to dance to and forget about everything in the past year.”
Ellie Goulding has already released the album’s lead single, “Let It Die,” which is a telltale sign she’s staying on track. The intimate dance anthem has a distinct flavor of dance music subgenres such as disco, future house, and many others.
Ellie Goulding discussed her forthcoming album, stating that there was a sense of darkness in the studio over the last two years, with everyone going through it differently. “I think for that reason, nobody wanted to sit and agonize over some relationship or drama,” she says. “So that’s how this album came together. Higher Than Heaven is about being passionately in love. But it’s a hyper form of love, almost like a drug-induced feeling. It feels almost artificial, and there’s the potential for a crash.”
Indeed, Higher Than Heaven will be brimming with infectious hits that feature her signature vocals. At the same time, the production is pop music at its best, with stomping basslines, rocketing synths, and blissful melodies.
October 2022 also marked the 10th anniversary of Ellie’s second album Halcyon, which debuted at No. 1 in the UK and remained in the top 100 for over two years. To celebrate the occasion, Ellie released a new digital project called “Halcyon Nights” – Part 1 is the original album, and Part 2 includes bonus tracks from the Halcyon era, which include six songs that have never been streamed before.
Brightest Blue, Ellie’s most recent album, was released in July 2020 and became her third No. 1 studio album in the UK. Ellie took a more personal and stripped-back perspective to the record, allowing her fans to see a more vulnerable side of her songwriting. Ellie collaborated with several more left-leaning writers and performers throughout the album, including serpentwithfeet, Tobias Jesso Jr., and Patrick Wimberly.
Today, Ellie Goulding has three number-one albums to her credit, two BRIT Awards, two GRAMMY Award nominations, and a Golden Globe nomination. She has sold more than 18 million albums and 140 million singles, with 23 billion streams worldwide. With over 50 million followers across her social media platforms, she also garnered YouTube’s Diamond Award with 10 million subscribers on her YouTube channel and over 5 billion views internationally.
Ellie Goulding is about to embark on her next music era, and we are ready for it.
