Beks on Living as an Australian Artist In London

Joining us at the Nexus Lounge, ADE edition, we spoke with Beks about her time at ADE, what it’s like to be an Australian artist living in London, and rumblings of a possible Kylie collab.

In a short time, Beks found her feet on the world music stage, bringing a flair for style. After leaving an unforgettable impact on audiences across Australia, her American tour only served to cement her status as a rising dance music star. It looks like she may even have some bigger things to come.

Checking in at this year’s ADE, Beks was just coming off the back of a month-long stint of sessions across Germany and London. Now, at the end of what she called her ‘writing period,’ she was only too happy to make the most of ADE, having a good time and meeting more people from within the industry.

But what exactly has she been cooking up during that writing time? Following up her first EP – a set of remixes of her stunning single “Devoted” –  Beks has now brought us I’m That Girl.

The new EP contains five tracks, and while the title track has undoubtedly gained its fair share of attention, the real breakout is the song Dangerous, which listeners can’t seem to get enough of.

Not that Beks is done bringing us exciting new developments – far from it. While joking about Australian music icon Kylie Minogue being her “spiritual sister,” Beks mentioned that she has some “exciting news to do with her,” which she couldn’t yet reveal.

When asked about the differences between working as an artist in Australia versus living in London, she had this to say:

“Living in London, it’s just dystopic compared to Australia. You know, it just feels a bit more grim but this is my sacrifice - to my career and my sacrifice to dance music. That’s where the opportunities are and that’s where I go.”
