Defying Musical Conventions: The Chainsmokers Will Play the First-Ever Concert in Space in 2024

The Chainsmokers are reaching new heights. Literally!

The duo has just committed to their career’s most remarkable live performance, but where will it be? It’s going to be in a pressurized capsule that is 20 miles above the surface of the planet. The Chainsmokers are among the most well-known musical groups on Earth, but soon they’ll also be conquering space. So whatever you think of the best concert you’ve ever attended, this one will indeed be out of this world!
Although it’s still in its infancy, space tourism is a growing space exploration sector that receives a bad rap. According to critics, it harms the environment and ultimately serves as another means for large corporations to extort more money from wealthy customers seeking their next great experience. However, that reputation is about to change.
Chainsmokers-Space
World View, a new firm that plans to send passengers into space in a capsule attached to Strato-balloons, has announced a new partnership, and this one will go down in history. The Chainsmokers, one of the most successful musical acts, will be the first duo to perform in space. To be more precise, at the edge of it.
Ryan Hartman, the company’s founder, told the Associated Press that he hoped more artists would make this journey soon because it might “inspire them to do something different.” He continued, “We think about inspiring new perspectives and how those new perspectives can lead to a radically improved future for our Earth. To be able to reach the audience of The Chainsmokers through Alex and Drew’s work contributes to our mission as well, and it’s something that I’m personally inspired by and excited about.”
World View CEO Ryan Hartman believes it is important to enter space in a way that will appeal to young people. That’s why, after hearing his youngest kid sing the lyrics to one of The Chainsmokers’ songs, he had supper with the duo to ascertain their level of interest.
The Grammy-winning tandem answered in a statement, “We have always dreamed of going to space and are stoked to collaborate with World View to have this adventure and experience. We know Earth’s and space’s views will be incredible and inspiring, and we hope to leverage this flight for creativity on future projects.”
The Chainsmokers have already achieved five Top 10 Billboard Hot 100 hits, which include “Closer,” “Don’t Let Me Down,” “Paris,” and “Something Just Like This,” in collaboration with Coldplay in 2017. Today, they will be among the first performers to usher in World View’s upcoming 2024 commercial space tourism flights. While giving a live performance for the guests, Drew Taggart and Alex Pall will also record it for later use. Although they have consistently been recognized for forging their paths, this has to rank among their most creative endeavors.
The act comes after Luca Parmitano, an astronaut of the European Space Agency (ESA), made history in 2019 by becoming the first Earthling to DJ in space. As part of the BigCityBeats WORLD CLUB DOME Cruise Edition, he performed for over 3000 spectators and transmitted the first DJ music set from orbit. His performance lasted about 12 minutes and was broadcast on the main stage aboard the Norwegian Pearl cruise ship, which was docked on the Spanish island of Ibiza.
World View is one of several new commercial space exploration companies, such as Blue Origin, Virgin Galactic, and SpaceX, selling seats to the general public. The eight guests in each World View balloon capsule will soar to an altitude of 100,000 feet (30,480 meters). Future exploratory flights will cost $50,000 with a $5,000 down payment, and the whole trip will last six to eight hours.
