Interview: Inside the Mind of Jordan Jay

Jordi Coenradie otherwise known as Jordan Jay is a dance music producer and DJ from Rotterdam, Amsterdam. His music career started when he was only 15 years old. He first began producing Dubstep and Drum & Bass music exclusively, but he later discovered a true passion for house music.

His debut release (“Haze”) in 2016 with Charlie Ray on Armada Music was successful, and it was supported by the likes of Martin Garrix, Nicky Romero, and David Guetta to list only a few. However this year has proven to be even bigger for Jordan Jay, his track “Treat You Right” has received praise from notable dance music blogs like Dancing Astronaut and DJ MAG, and his latest venture with The Him produced a catchy new tune that you won’t be able to shake off!

Jordan Jay joins us for this installment of Take 5 where he talks about his “collab” with The HIM (‘By Your Side’) and more- let’s go inside the mind of Jordan Jay:

Hi Jordan Jay, tell us about your latest project.

‘By Your Side’ really has that old school vibe with a modern dance production. I also feel like it represents both The Him and my own style really well. I started off with this vocal I found online. It’s sampled from a really old ZZ Hill song. Both The Him and I really loved the lyrics and the old school tone it has to it. Nobody nowadays sings about working so hard and needing a sweet woman. Everything about it is just fun and old school!

What inspired you to make music?

I’ve always been a creative kid, but mostly digital (I can’t draw, haha). I’ve always loved music but one thing in particular sparked my interest into making music. My dad took me to an electronics store when I was 15 and I came across these cheap DJ controllers. I bought one and started spinning. I noticed I wanted to change the song so much, much more than possible with DJ software. I looked online for software and watched countless hours of tutorials.

There really isn’t a super inspirational moment in my live that got me into music production, it’s just something I feel comfortable with and love.

If you were given the opportunity to interview another musician, who would it be and why?

From the EDM scene it has to be Salvatore Ganacci. He’s so goofy and I love it!

General music wise I am a huge fan of HONNE.

If you could be any animal in the world, which animal would you be?

A snapping turtle! (outch)

What is the last song you listened to on your phone?

Miguel – Sky Walker (Niko The Kid Remix)

What would you like to say to all your fans out there?

Huge thank you for all the love and for following me on this journey ❤.
